Dean Abbey was the Modified feature winner at Kennedale Speedway Parks Spring Kickoff

The racers saved their best for the last night at Kennedale Speedway Parks Annual Spring Kickoff. If the racing Sunday night was any indication of the racing this season at KSP, the race fans are in for a treat.

In the IMCA Modified feature, it was a great race between two veteran racers, Dean Abbey, No. 26, and William Gould, No. 60. Dean Abbey managed to battled his way to the front and take the $500 to win Modified feature. Abilene's Josh McGaha, No. 911, ended up second, William Gould, No. 60, settled for third, Matt Martin, No. 11, was fourth and Jay Bransom, No. 29, was fifth. M. Guillaume, R. Daniels, J. Littlejohn, C. Melton, and R. Scrivner, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars started the feature.

SportMod Feature Winner: It was a door banger between Jake UpChurch, No. 24, and Westin Abbey, No. 12. Jake managed to hold off Westin at the finish line for the exciting win. James Skinner, No. 17s, was third, Greg Frazer, No. 166x, was fourth and Allen Montgomery, No. 38, was fifth. J. Nabors, J. Habusch, J. Freeman, T. Cook, and K. Rupp, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars started the feature.

Stock Car Feature Winner: Good battle between "Wild Child" Damon Hammond, No. 116, and Jay Bransom, No. 29. Damon came out on top. Tyler Muirhead, No. 22t, was third, Kirk Martin, No. 69, was fourth and Westin Abbey, No. 12, was fifth. G. Gutt, J. Bruce, L. Blackwood, R. Shipman, and Jerrett Bransom, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars started the feature.

Factory Stock Feature Winner: Another great finish in the Factory Stock feature with Jamey Lough, No. 39, taking the exciting win. Walter Hamilton, No. 75w, had a good run but ended up second, Damon Hammond, No. 116, settled for third, Duane Wolff, No. 10, was fourth and Casey Lyles, No. 27, was fifth. A.J. Gardner, T. Murray, R. Welborn, J. Capps, and J. Herring, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars started the feature.

600 A-class Feature Winner: Aaron Dromgoole, No. p40, pushed it to the limit and managed to hold off Joey Starnes, No. 5b, at the checkered for the exciting feature win. Chase Brewer, No. 3c, was third, Chase Randall, No. 9, was fourth and Chad Wilson, No. 20, was fifth. W. Gorham, M. Thomas, C. Wood, T. Goad, and S. Smith, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars started the feature.

No. 4b took a tumble during his heat race.

Kyle Jones wins the $1,000 Sprint feature at Kennedale Speedway Parks Spring Kickoff

Kyle Jones was the Sprint feature winner.

Kennedale Speedway Park held their first of two nights of racing for their Annual Spring Kickoff. Racing continues Sunday afternoon with the gates opening at 2 p.m. and racing starting at 4 p.m. Despite the colder weather, a great crowd was on hand to watch some exciting racing. The pits were full with over 160 cars that competed in five different classes. In the $1,000 to win IMCA RaceSaver Sprint feature, John "the Rocket" Ricketts, No. 5r, had a great run, but half way through the feature race, a caution came out. On the restart, Kyle Jones, No, 04, managed to slip past John for the lead and go on to take the feature win. Marcus Thomas, No. 15t, ended up second, John Ricketts, No. 5r, settled for third, George White, No. 10, was fourth, and Chad Wilson, No. 20, was fifth. B. Long, D.J. Estes, M. Melton, L. Scherb, and J. Sessions, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-three cars started the feature.

Modified Feature Winner: Matt Guillaume, No. 50, managed to miss the pileup in turn 1 on the first lap. Matt didn't let that slow him down, because he ran off with the A-main win. Matt Martin, No. 11, was second, Doug Easterling, No. 88, was third, Jay Bransom, No. 29, was fourth and Dean Abbey, No. 26, was fifth. R. Daniels, C. Melton, W. Gould, F. Wojtek, and J. McGaha, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars started the feature.

SportMod Feature Winner: Jon White Jr., No. 8j, lead every lap of the SportMod feature. Jacob Pirkle, No. 141, was a close second, James McCreery, No. 13j, was third, Jake UpChurch, No. 24, was fourth and Corey Williams, No. 511, was fifth. J. Long, J. Freeman, J. Nabors, T. Owens, and A. Montgomery, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars started the feature.

Stock Car Feature Winner: A good race between Kirk Martin, No. 69, and Tyler Muirhead, No. 22t. Sadly with one lap to go, Tyler spun out. Kirk Martin held on to the lead and the feature win. Brandon Taylor, No. 5*, was second, Westin Abbey, No. 12, was third, G.W. Egbert, No. 717, was fourth and Dennis Bissonette, No. 07d, was fifth. A. Munoz, D. Pritchett, R. Killen, B. Norris, and Jarrett Bransom, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars started the feature.

Factory Stock Feature Winner: Chase Neil, No. 416, had the hot rod to beat. Damon Hammond, No. 116, came up a little short and settled for second, Casey Lyles, No. 27, was third, Bryce Pritchett, No. 010, was fourth, and Jonathan Capps, No. 5j, was fifth. S. Ott, M. Shackleford, G. Zachary, L. Hanson Jr., and S. Ashcraft, rounded out the top ten. Twenty-cars rounded out the top ten.

No. 75 hit the fence hard during his B-main.

Justin Whitehead wins both the Smackdown and the Inaugural Battle Royal at 85 Speedway

Justin Whitehead smoked the competition to take the feature win.

85 Speedway, in Ennis, TX, held their 2nd Annual Smackdown Saturday night. A great crowd was on hand to watch some exciting racing and support a great cause, the Parker Lee Project. The Parker Lee Project raises money for children with special needs. For more information on the Parker Lee Project, go to: theparkerleeproject.org Also on the program, were the exciting Sportmods, along with the Smileys Racing Products Inaugural Battle Royal Invitational!

In the Smackdown, 40-lap, $2,500 to win feature, several cars battled it out for the early lead. Texarkana's Justin Whitehead, No. 85t, worked his way to the front and seemed to have the race well in hand, until a caution came out, with less than 5 laps to go. Brandon Brown, No. 32, made it interesting, but he had to settle for the $1,000 second spot. Jason Gore, No. 7g, was third, Chris Davis, No. 98, was fourth, Brandon Ball, No. 78, was fifth, Mike Marusak, No. 45, was sixth, Kevin Sustaire, No. 630, was seventh, Jacob Wilborn, No. 66, was eight, Keith White, No. 84, was ninth, and Jon Mitchell, No. 68x, was tenth. C. Morris, D. Bissonnette, R. Sessions, C. Lyles, W. Hamilton, J. Turner, A. Waters, K. Manning, K. C. Jamerson, C. UpChurch, J. Finelli, S. Graham, and B. Arden, rounded out the field. Twenty-four cars started the feature.

Over seventy Factory Stocks were in the pits.

Chris Davis, No. 98, parked it in the fourth spot during the feature.

Rodney White was the SportMod feature winner.

SportMod Feature Winner: Cody Smith, No. 31s, gave Rodney White, No. 84, a run for the money, but Cody settled for second place in the 40-lap, $1,200 to win SportMod feature. Having a good run for third was Jake UpChurch, No. 24, Justin Shaw, No. 55, was fourth, Walter Hamilton, No. 1w, was fifth, Jared Baird, No. b4, was sixth, Rickey Haney, No. 99h, was seventh, James McCreery, No. 13j, was eighth, Keith Wright, No. 5*, was ninth, and Mike Martin, No. 15, was tenth. B. Burt, N. Vandiver, K. Rowland, M. Doescher, J. Sartain, D. Spear, B. Sheets, J. McDougall, J.C. Howell, T. Potter, G. Yates, B. Watson, and J. Robozzi, rounded out the field. Twenty-four cars started the feature.

Cody Smith had a strong run for second.

Jake UpChurch. No. 24, had a solid top 5 finish.

Justin Whitehead was the Factory Stock Battle Royal feature winner.

Factory Stock Battle Royal Feature Winner: This race saw ten drivers battle for the Smileys Racing Products Inaugural Battle Royal Invitational Championship. Coming from the back of the pack was Justin Whitehead, No. 85t, for his first of two feature wins on the evening. The star studded field included Kevin Rogers, Kevin Sustaire, Cody Daniel, Tyler Honeywell, Jon Mitchell, Raymond King, Keith White, Justin "Rowdy C" Shaw and Kenneth Montgomery.
