It might be fall in North Texas, but the local racing action is still hot. In the next month, five area dirt tracks will hold events with purses as large as $100,000. Here’s a look at the events:
Cowtown Speedway (Kennedale), Oct. 9-10

Second Annual Cowtown Sprint Nationals
Event details: The entry list for the $85,000 event features almost 70 sprint cars and drivers from 12 states. Joining the sprint cars will be the ninth annual Topless 100, the Topless Limited Modifieds and the Winged 600s Championships.
Tickets: Adult tickets, which can be purchased in advance at www.cowtownspeedway.com until Oct. 8, run between $40 (reserved) to $35 (general admission) for two-day passes and $20-$25 for single-day tickets. Child tickets are $2-$5.

Oct. 8 (Thursday): Practice, 5-9 p.m., $20 pit passes
Oct. 9 (Friday): Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m.; grandstand opens at 6 p.m.; hot laps begin at 7 p.m. for all four classes; racing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Oct. 10 (Saturday): Fan Fest is scheduled for 3 p.m.-4:15 p.m.; pit gates open at 4:30 p.m.; grandstand opens at 5 p.m.; hot laps begin at 6:30 p.m.; racing is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Boyd Raceway, Oct. 10
2009 Grand Nationals
Event details: Classes include IMCA Modifieds ($2,000 to win), IMCA Stock Cars ($2,000 to win), IMCA Hobby Stocks ($1,000 to win), IMCA Sport Mods ($1,500 to win), Mini Stocks ($250 to win) and IMCA Late Models ($500 to win).
Tickets: $12 for adults, $6 for children 6-11, children under 5 are free. Pit passes are $25.

Oct. 9 (Friday): Hot laps from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. Pit passes are $10.

Event details: The $100,000 weekend features ASCS Outlaw Sprints, USA Modifieds, Late Models, Limited Modifieds and Street Stocks.
